Technological Innovation & Entrepreneurship - Monday weeks 3,5 &7, St Catherine's College
A seminar series exploring how technological ideas become business opportunities through case-studies into 5 quite different technologically innovative companies from a range of engineering disciplines. The series will be rounded off with a panel discussion with a number of individuals experienced at making innovative companies develop and succeed.

Lime Technology, Ian Pritchett (Technical Director & Vice Chairman)
Lime Technology is group of companies, all market leaders in the development of lime based, low carbon building products and sustainable building solutions. The group includes; Hemp Technology, the UK’s largest hemp processor and Hemcrete Projects, a specialist subcontractor manufacturing and erecting a variety of high performance and unique timber frame building systems. They offer a wide range of sustainable low carbon building systems for mainstream construction including Limetec mortars and Baumit renders, Tradical Hemcrete, External Wall Installation and Breathe hemp insulation.

Founded in 1984 OMG now does business through four companies:
• Vicon - the world’s largest motion capture and movement analysis company
• 2d3 Sensing - a manufacturer of specialised aerial imaging software for defence and industrial applications
• Yotta DCL – a highways surveying business
• OMG Life – a recently launched consumer products division, due to launch its first product in 2012
The group headquarters are in Oxford, and they also have offices in California, Colorado and Singapore. The company has grown from around 5 people to now employing around 250, with customers in over 70 countries. Since 2001, OMG has been a quoted company listed on the Alternative Investment Market. Their technology has an incredibly wide range of applications. Currently they help movie-makers to create astonishing visual effects; local authorities to save money and time maintaining their road networks; troops in battle to spy out enemy terrain in pin-point detail; Olympic athletes to improve their performance; and Alzheimer's sufferers to recapture "lost" memories. And the diversity of uses for unrivalled expertise in computer vision is growing all the time.

ELG Carbon Fibre Ltd, Steve Line (Managing Director)
ELG Carbon Fibre is the pioneer of sustainable carbon fibre recycling as the World’s first commercial scale recycled carbon fibre operation. Their UK site for the conversion of composite waste in to high quality reusable carbon fibre is based in the West Midlands and global expansion plans include the launch of additional overseas facilities. Their goal is to help business avoid the unnecessary cost of disposing of their scrap waste and end-of-life carbon fibre composites to land-fill or incineration plants. These have both a cash and environmental cost. Recycling is a positive action in avoiding long-term damage to the environment. ELG Carbon Fibre offer a range of high quality recycled carbon fibre products at competitive prices in forms that are readily usable in a number of industrial applications.
